Ugnayan Retreat 07: Culture Shock (iShock)

August 19th, 2007 Filed under: Youth by FFLCC

The Ugnayan Retreat 2007 was held last August 17th to 18th, 2007 in Silver Spring, Maryland. It was entitled Culture Shock or fondly called iShock because of the iPod fad nowadays. One of the main goals of the retreat was to prepare the youth and young adults of our generation to shock the culture of this world. And sure enough, for me, it seems like it prepared us. Maybe not completely, but it surely opened our eyes to the things these world “offers” us.

The speakers were Pastor Travis Gore and Pastor Jason Cook. Pastor Travis preached twice and his main point was to let us know that there are spirits working against God in this world. And those spirits are targeting us, the young people of this generation - especially Christians. I liked the way he preached the Word. He preached it in such a plain and DIRECT way. He said things I don’t really hear pastors say. Some things and statistics he said were eye openers, shocking and bothering. Some people sitting beside me seem uneasy, but his ways of sending us God’s message was an effective way.

Pastor Jason, is a very good preacher too. As he said, he was a visual person. And we will surely never forget that wedding gown that was so full of stains. That illustration was really good - it made me (I’m sure others too) think so much and repent and make my ways better. The games were fun though we wanted more!! I wish the retreat was longer. haha.

The messages and games were fun. But for me, I loved the time we got to spend talking and laughing with our respective youth groups and meeting other people as well. There’s never a dull moment when God’s with us. =) Personally, I didn’t expect much from the retreat, but then, God is surely full of surprises. I got more than what I expected. What can I do? I underestimated God’s power to move in such a mighty way!

So, so many special thank-yous to the people who worked hard for the retreat - the pastors, the youth leaders, music ministry, supporters (the families!!), the people who served us food! and to the very (ahem) cooperative participants. Most especially, God - for being such a great God and for opportunities like this.  I’m looking forward to seeing all of you and more people on the next retreat! I hope and pray that our eyes were opened and we are now INFORMED and TRANSFORMED and prepared to SHOCK THE WORLD. Go on, let’s TELL THE WORLD! =)

Kings dominion

August 4th, 2007 Filed under: Youth by FFLCC

Last July 30th, the youth, young adults and their families went to kings dominion. I’m sure everyone prayed for a good weather. Hey, it rained! But then, we all know that God had a purpose for it - maybe for everyone to rest for a while and get to know each other (as tita Ai said). And needless to say, it was actually better after the rain. Rides and attractions were enjoyed and we all had a great time. Laughs, rides and water. I can only generalize the day by this - a blessing. A blessing in such a way that we all had fun together, rain or shine. =)

What did you think of the kings dominion trip?

Old Rag Hiking

July 22nd, 2007 Filed under: Youth by FFLCC

The hiking was held last Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Old Rag Mountain in the Shenandoah National Park.  Youth, young adults and leaders joined the hike.  We walked along the trail - a long trail at that.  After a few hours of walking, we stumbled upon big boulders and climbed them.  Special thanks to the people who helped us - Krenz, David, kuya Derick and Jhonimie.  We stopped a few times for a water break and we also stopped for a few songs and reading of God’s Word.  The hike was pretty hard but we all made it, thank God, because of the people who helped, determination to reach the top, and most of all, faith in God that we’ll not fall down.  But needless to say, I think we all felt the same when we reached the top of the mountain.  We saw God’s beautiful creation.  We saw His marvelous works, that by itself made us feel better.  And by the way, after when we got back to the base of the mountain, it felt even better when there were lots of other church members there with food waiting for us for Jhonimie’s birthday celebration.

Lots of stories to tell and lots of things to thank God for. So for the people who went to hike, what do you think? Any comments about the hike?

What did you think of ATF2007?

May 17th, 2007 Filed under: Youth by faithforlivingchurch

ATF 2007
On May 11-12,Nissan Pavillion rang with more than 20,000 teens from across the east coast shouting in worship to songs played by Christian rock bands. The talk was all about Jesus Christ, the cross, and taking a stand to save this generation. “My voice!” the young Christian crowd yelled.
